Senior officials of the Lagos State Government on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, carried out an assessment visit to the Smart School facilities in Iworo, Badagry axis, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen technology-driven education across the state.
The inspection team was led by the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Mr. Hassan Dauda Abiodun, FMAN, FISN, FCPA, who joined the Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Ali-Balogun, alongside the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs. Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite. Also on the delegation were the Chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB), Dr. Hakeem Babatunde Shittu, and other top government functionaries.
The visit focused on evaluating the readiness and infrastructure of the Smart School project in Iworo, with a view to identifying areas requiring further government intervention. The facility, which incorporates a Special Needs School, is conceived as a fully digital learning environment aimed at enhancing smart teaching and learning from pre-primary to post-primary levels. Plans for the project also include boarding facilities, with hostels for both students and teachers to ensure inclusiveness and a conducive academic atmosphere.
Representatives of key Ministries, Departments and Agencies, including the Lagos State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure and the Lagos State Energy Commission, were present during the assessment. Traditional institutions were equally represented, with delegates from the Oni-Iworo of Iworo Awori Kingdom and the Baale of Epeme in attendance.
Following the Iworo inspection, the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary embarked on a resumption tour of selected schools within the Badagry education zone. During the visits, he interacted with teachers and school administrators, urging them to uphold integrity, professionalism and a strong sense of duty in the discharge of their responsibilities, even with minimal supervision. Emphasis was also placed on maintaining clean, safe and learner-friendly school environments.
The schools visited include Iworo-Ajido Junior and Senior Grammar Schools, Mowo Junior Secondary School, Ilogbo Junior and Senior Secondary Schools, as well as Araromi Ilogbo Junior and Senior Grammar Schools.
The exercise underscores the Lagos State Government’s commitment to improving educational standards through modern infrastructure, accountability and sustainable learning environments.
