Abubakar Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has formally switched allegiance from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a notable development in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.

The defection was announced in Abuja on Wednesday, where Abubakar publicly declared his full commitment to President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and expressed confidence in the direction of the current administration. He affirmed his support for the Renewed Hope Agenda, describing it as a credible pathway toward national stability, economic reform, and inclusive development.

In his remarks, Abubakar also urged members of his political structure and associates to follow suit by aligning with the APC, noting that his decision was informed by a firm belief in President Tinubu’s leadership capacity and long-term vision for Nigeria. He further pledged to work actively toward the success of the party and support Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

Leaders of the APC received the development with enthusiasm, describing it as a strategic gain for the party as preparations gradually build toward the 2027 general elections. The defection is widely seen as strengthening the ruling party’s political momentum ahead of the next electoral cycle.
