LAGOS REVOLUTION: TINUBU THE CRAFTSMAN AND THE ARCHITECTURE OF A MODERN MEGACITY

— Lagos Mirror Magazine

Lagos’ steady transformation into a modern megacity did not happen by chance. It was carefully engineered through deliberate planning, strong institutions, and strategic collaboration with the private sector, a governance philosophy firmly laid by Bola Ahmed Tinubu and advanced by his successors.

During Babatunde Fashola’s administration, infrastructure development accelerated to match the realities of a rapidly growing population. The introduction of air-conditioned city buses and the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, complete with dedicated lanes, redefined public transportation. In rural communities, over 110 development projects were delivered under the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation framework, while 104 communities benefited from metered, modified Type A water systems funded through intervention support.

Security also received a structural overhaul. Former criminal enclaves were reclaimed and redesigned into orderly environments, while the Lagos State Security Trust Fund was established to ensure sustainable funding for safety across the state.

Successive administrations under Akinwunmi Ambode and Babajide Sanwo-Olu have remained faithful to this masterplan. Today, Lagos proudly operates Blue and Red Rail lines, hosts the ambitious Eko Atlantic City, and continues to command global attention.

Yet, despite these visible milestones, opposition figures like Rhodes-Vivour persist in dismissing these achievements. His attempt to portray historic Isale Eko as evidence of failure reflects a selective reading of Lagos’ complex urban evolution. Such narratives overlook why many Lagosians continue to support the continuity of a masterplan they can see, feel, and live with daily.

To Lagosians, the revolution is real and the craftsman’s blueprint remains unmistakable.
