NURTW Lagos Takes Disciplinary Action, Unveils New Welfare and Reform Agenda

Lagos Mirror Magazine:

The Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has announced the suspension of some officials of the Alimosho Branch “V” executive committee over allegations of gross misconduct and unacceptable treatment of junior staff.

The decision, which takes immediate effect, was disclosed at a State Council meeting where the leadership reaffirmed its zero tolerance for indiscipline and abuse of authority. Addressing members, the State Chairman, Comrade Sego, stressed that leadership positions demand exemplary conduct, warning that selfishness and intimidation undermine trust and unity within the union.

He emphasized that staff welfare remains central to the ongoing transformation of the union, noting that improved working conditions are essential to building a more productive and respected organization. Comrade Sego outlined several policy frameworks and development plans already circulated to Branch and Zonal Chairmen, highlighting projects that have been completed as well as others nearing completion.

Among the welfare initiatives announced is a ₦5 million support package for the families of all former state chairmen, expected to be disbursed in the coming weeks. He also revealed plans to commission a new motor park at Oyingbo, Lagos Mainland, describing it as a landmark project aimed at enhancing transport operations and efficiency.

The chairman urged leaders at all levels to prioritize staff welfare, reject corruption, and foster a culture of fairness and accountability, reaffirming his commitment to repositioning the Lagos State NURTW for the benefit of its workforce and the wider public.
